The scope of this article is to document how a local filetype can be associated with a published resource using 2X RemoteApplication Server.

Versions Effected

2X RemoteApplicationServer v10.5+

It is possible to associate a filetype on the client's local machine with a published application. This can be particularly useful when making software available from a 2X RemoteApplicationServer farm which is not available locally.

A practical example of this would be:

Users work extensively on .docx files, however, they do not have a word editor installed locally. A word processing application is however available and published from a 2X RemoteApplicationServer Farm.

It is possible to associate these files automatically directly from the 2X Console by doing as follows:

  1. Identify what filetype / extension customer is trying to launch
  2. Identify which published app would you like to handle this
  3. Associate the extension by setting it from the Publishing Pane > Published resource > Advanced Tab > Extension setting from the drop down menu.

Once done, one the user logs in using his 2X Client, the association will be placed on the user's local machine. Upon running local .docx files, the published app will launch and allow editing of the document.
