Universal Printing Maintenance

Overview

Over time, it is possible that drivers would need to be recreated for redirected printers for maintenance or cleanup of redirected printers which have become obsolete.

This article outlines the necessary steps to cleanup and remove drivers of old redirected printers.

Versions affected

2X Remote Application Server v10.5+

Description

A driver is created automatically when a printer gets redirected to the RDS server. The naming convention of redirected printers by default is: %PRINTERNAME% for %USERNAME% by 2X

To delete old drivers, the following steps may be followed:

Windows Server 2003:

1. Start > Printers And Faxes
2. Right click (not on a printer, just the blank white space in the window background) > Server Properties
3. Change to the Drivers tab
4. Remove all 2X printers (apart from the main 2X Universal Printer one)

Windows Server 2008 R2+:

1. Access Printers and Devices on your Server
2. Click on an available printer > Print Server Properties
3. Change to the Drivers tab
4. Remove all 2X printers (apart from the main 2X Universal Printer one)

Should the printer not be in use by a logged on user, the printer can be removed there and then. The driver will be recreated automatically should the user attempt to log back in.
